Donington le Heath
Coalville
The museum is based in a Medieval Manor House dating back to 1280. The house has a fascinating history and is now partly restored in 17th century style with fine oak furnishings, including a bed said to have used by Richard III before Bosworth. Visitors to the house can see displays on medieval and Tudor life, as well as a series of temporary exhibitions on a wide range of subjects. A virtual tour and interactive displays help visitors with mobility difficulties to see above the tricky stairs and everyone to understand the development of the site. A free audio guide to the house is also available. The house is set in 17th century style gardens, with flower gardens, an orchard, herb gardens and a maze. The adjoining stone barn is home to the Classics Tea Room, serving home made cakes, light meals and drinks. Free public events are run all year round, and the house also hosts a series of ticketed evening talks, outdoor plays and concerts.
