Lulworth Castle Park and Cove

East Lulworth

Lulworth Castle Park and Cove

This 17th century Castle stands in enclosed parkland in East Lulworth. Originally built as a Hunting Lodge in 1608 it has entertained no less than seven monarchs. The Castle has been owned by the same family for 370 years.

Destroyed by fire in 1929, restoration work returned the exterior to its original glory and consolidated the interior revealing many stories about its past. Explore the fascinating history through various informative displays, exhibitions and the reconstructed kitchen and cellars.

Visit the children's activity room or climb the CastleTower and take in the unrivalled views across the Purbecks.

Enjoy the tranquillity of the nearby 18th century Chapel, the first free standing Roman Catholic Chapel built in England post Reformation.

Bring a picnic, let off steam in the Adventure Playground & wander through the park and woodland (dogs welcome in the park on leads).

Pay & Display parking allows visitors access to the park & grounds, with a separate admission charge for the Castle and Chapel.

Lulworth Cove
Visit the idyllic village of West Lulworth, which features the world famous horse-shoe shaped beach of Lulworth Cove, the gateway to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast; and enjoy a variety of activities.

As a popular tourist destination there is something for everyone! Why not take a dip in the Cove, or a boat trip to view the striking coastline from the sea. Buy delicious fudge from The Dolls House sweet shop or an ice-cream and drink from the Beach Cafe and at low tide enjoy a spot of rockpooling.

Visit the Heritage Centre, which is free to all and includes various informative exhibitions and displays showing the history of Lulworth from its famous geology to wildlife, and some local history.

There are also plenty of stunning clifftop walks; to the east of the Cove is Fossil Forest & Mupe Bay and to the west is Durdle Door.

If you fancy spending your holiday here there are plenty of places to stay in the Village, including Coastguard Cottage or Spring Cottage, as well as various hotels and bed & breakfast accommodation in the area.
